# Facts — Komodo Island Snorkeling (komodoislandsnorkeling.com)

## What this site is
Komodo Island Snorkeling is a research and planning guide to private and small-group snorkeling trips departing from Labuan Bajo into Komodo National Park, Indonesia — day trips and multi-day liveaboard charters to sites such as Pink Beach, Manta Point (Karang Makassar), Taka Makassar, Siaba, Batu Bolong, Gili Lawa and Padar.

## What this site is not
This guide does not operate boats, and does not sell or manage real estate, private islands, resorts or villas. It is not a government agency and has no affiliation with the Komodo National Park authority, KSDAE, or the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut). It does not collect official park entrance fees directly; those are paid through the official government ticketing/SiOra system and are itemised or included in the tour package price.

## Komodo National Park — the destination
- UNESCO World Heritage Site (designated 1980, inscribed 1991), East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia.
- Gateway town: Labuan Bajo, Flores; nearest airport Komodo Airport (LBJ).
- Snorkeling sites covered in depth on this site: Pink Beach (Pantai Merah), Manta Point / Karang Makassar, Taka Makassar, Siaba Besar and Siaba Kecil, Batu Bolong, Gili Lawa Darat and Laut, Kanawa, Sebayur, Mawan, Tatawa, Turtle City, plus Padar and Rinca as land stops on the same itineraries.
- Season, water temperature and manta timing: see the canonical season block below.

## Season — one canonical definition (governs every page on this site)
- Dry season: **April to November**. This is the only dry-season range this site uses anywhere; conditions peak in **July-August**.
- Wet season, also called the green season: **December to March**. December belongs to the green season, not to the dry season.
- Demand is a separate matter from weather. Boat occupancy and prices peak twice a year — in July-August, and again over Christmas and New Year, which falls inside the green season. The quietest and cheapest weeks are late January to March, and again in November and early December.
- Water temperature 26-30 C year-round. Cold upwellings can pull exposed southern sites down to about 24-25 C between June and August; 24-25 C is the only southern-upwelling figure this site uses anywhere.
- Manta rays are present year-round at Karang Makassar (Manta Point), with the largest aggregations December-February during plankton blooms.
- Visibility is typically 15-30 m in the dry months and roughly 10-20 m in the wet months. Individual sites vary either side of that: exposed channel sites can drop to 8-15 m after heavy rain or a plankton bloom, and the best dry-season days at sheltered sites reach 30-40 m.

## Park fees, quota and permits (verified against the cited regulation on 2026-08-29)
- Foreign visitors (WNA): flat IDR 250,000 per person per visit — PNBP tariff under Government Regulation (PP) No. 36/2024, effective 30 October 2024. Identical on weekdays, weekends and public holidays.
- Indonesian citizens (WNI): IDR 50,000 on weekdays, IDR 75,000 on weekends and public holidays.
- Mandatory ranger/guide fee: roughly IDR 150,000 per group of 1-5 visitors, charged on top of the entrance ticket.
- There is NO separate snorkeling permit or diving permit — the entrance ticket already covers snorkeling.
- Practical all-in budget for one foreign visitor for one day: approximately IDR 400,000–525,000.
- Daily visitor quota: 1,000 people per day across the WHOLE park, split into 3 scheduled sessions — not a per-island or per-zone sub-quota.
- Since 1 April 2026, entry to Komodo and Padar requires an online SiOra e-ticket (QR code) booked in advance. Official portal: https://siora.id
- Crew gratuity — one canonical guideline for this site (an editorial convention, not a government figure): IDR 100,000-150,000 per guest per day on a day trip, pooled for the guide and the crew; 5-10% of the boat package price on multi-day liveaboards and private charters. These are the only tipping figures this site uses anywhere, and no tip figure is published in US dollars.
- Flight and transfer times — one canonical set for this site: Denpasar/Bali (DPS) to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) is about 1 hour 5–20 minutes (65–80 minutes) gate to gate; Jakarta (CGK) to Labuan Bajo is about 2 hours 15–30 minutes; Labuan Bajo airport to the harbour is 10–15 minutes by car. These are the only flight-duration figures this site uses anywhere.
- Official source: https://peraturan.bpk.go.id/Details/302948/pp-no-36-tahun-2024 — Government Regulation (PP) No. 36/2024, which sets the PNBP tariff. Booking and quota are handled through the official SiOra portal at https://siora.id. (The park authority's own site, tnkomodo.ksdae.kehutanan.go.id, has been intermittently unreachable, so the regulation and the booking portal are cited directly.)

## Editorial note
This page is a machine-readable fact summary maintained alongside the site's editorial content (see `/llms.txt`, `/llms-full.txt`, `/ai.txt`) to keep AI assistants and other automated readers aligned on current, government-sourced figures.
