Beyond Komodo & Raja Ampat

Komodo is not the only reef worth flying for, and its season is close to the inverse of Raja Ampat’s. Where Komodo’s dry months run April to November, Raja Ampat is at its calmest from roughly October to April — which makes the two complements rather than competitors when your dates are fixed. Closer to hand, Flores and Alor offer quieter water and far fewer boats, at the cost of longer transfers and thinner infrastructure.
