Snorkeling Spots & Marine Life

Komodo National Park is not one snorkeling site but a scatter of them, and they behave very differently. Karang Makassar — Manta Point — is a shallow sand-and-rubble channel where reef mantas queue at cleaning stations; it is a drift, not a swim. Pink Beach is the opposite: a sheltered slope that starts a few metres off the sand and rarely asks anything of you. Siaba Besar is the turtle stop. Batu Bolong is the one a good guide will check the tide table twice before agreeing to. The pages in this section take each site on its own terms — what lives there, what the current does, and which sites belong on a day trip rather than a liveaboard. Manta rays are present at Karang Makassar year-round, with the largest aggregations between December and February when plankton blooms draw them in.
